- Private transport corporations threaten Bandh on July 27. Call off strike after talks with the Transport minister, who reportedly agreed to 28 of 30 demands.
The collective of 23 private transport unions held discussions with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on various issues, including a crackdown on “illegal” Rapido (two-wheeler bike taxi) services, reimbursement for private bus operators similar to that under the Shakti scheme, Rs 10,000 monthly compensation subsidy to autorickshaw drivers, formation of an auto drivers development corporation, withdrawal of new taxes levied on private vehicles worth more than Rs 10-15 lakh and scholarships for taxi and auto drivers’ children. Reddy assured the federation that out of its 30 demands, 28 would be met in the next three days. The rest of the demands would be discussed with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on August 10. “I have agreed to fulfil 28 demands as of now. The other two demands, of a reduction in tax for private vehicles and reimbursement for private bus operators against women passengers, will be taken up before the chief minister.[1]
